Why remove EXIF metadata before sharing photos?
EXIF metadata can include camera model, timestamps, lens details, and GPS location. Removing it helps prevent accidental location or device disclosure when you share an image.
Why does the cleaned file have a different size?
Cleaning re-encodes the image through browser Canvas, which removes the parsed EXIF block but can change compressor settings, color handling, orientation normalization, and file size. PNG avoids an additional lossy codec pass but is not byte-for-byte preservation.
What formats are supported for reading?
The published inspect-and-clean workflow accepts JPEG, PNG, and WebP because the current browser must both decode and re-export the source.
