Tips & Tricks
Rich text copied from editors can include invisible formatting. Paste as plain text when you need counts that match what will be published.
The character count with spaces is useful for prose. The no-space count is better for UI labels, SMS-style limits, and compact identifiers.
FAQ
Does the word counter include punctuation in the character count?
Yes β the character count includes all characters including spaces and punctuation. The 'characters (no spaces)' count strips whitespace only.
Is there a word or character limit?
The practical limit depends on available browser memory and device performance. Long documents are processed in the current tab; tool code does not submit entered text to a TOOLGRID processing endpoint.
How are words counted?
Words are counted with whitespace tokenization. 'hello-world' counts as one token; 'hello world' counts as two. This is not language-aware word segmentation, so another editor may report a different total.
Does it work with non-English text?
Yes. The tool counts any Unicode text correctly, including Chinese, Arabic, and other non-Latin scripts. Note that Chinese text counting may differ from what you expect since words aren't separated by spaces.
